Assessments

An existing septic system must be assessed if you wish to:

  • Increase the number of bedrooms in an existing dwelling and/or;
  • Add new plumbing fixtures to the existing dwelling and/or;
  • Increase the gross size of the dwelling by 15% or more.

The Ministry of Environment directly administers any septic system that has a capacity of 10,000 litres/day.

Forms

If you are planning to build an addition or renovate in a way that will increase the number of bedrooms, plumbing fixtures or gross area of the structure by 15% or more, you are required to complete the Septic Assessment Form. This allows the Building Services department to determine if the existing septic system will be able to handle the additional sewage flows.

Fees

Fees can be found in the Services & Fees By-Law, Schedule A.
