Heavy trucks on County roads

Heavy truck restrictions are in place on sections of the following County Roads, as per By-Law 39 of 2009:

  • County Road 4 - Petrolia Line
  • County Road 7 - Lakeshore Road
  • County Road 11 - Aberarder Line
  • County Road 12 - Townsend Line
  • County Road 16 - London Road
  • County Road 25 - Confederation Street
  • County Road 29 - Indian Road
  • County Road 26 - Mandaumin Road
  • County Road 30 - Oil Heritage Road
  • County Road 31 - Kimball Road

What is a heavy truck?

According to the By-Law, a Heavy Truck is a commercial vehicle with a GVRW in excess of 28,600 kilograms (63,052 pounds).

These kinds of vehicles include four or more axle single unit trucks, four or fewer axle truck and trailer combinations, five axle truck and trailer combinations, six or more axle truck and trailer combinations, five or fewer axle multis, six axle multis, and seven or more axle multis, as noted in the FHWA Vehicle Classification Scheme.

Additional restrictions

Prohibited Highway 1 restriction prohibits Heavy Trucks unless the point of pick-up or delivery is within the municipal boundaries of the County of Lambton.

Local pick-up or delivery areas included in Prohibited Highway 1 restrictions are:

  • London Road (County Road 16) - Front Street (County Road 33) to London Line (County Road 22)
  • Confederation Street (County Road 25) - Ontario Street to Christina Street
  • Indian Road (County Road 29) - Confederation Street (County Road 25) to Lakeshore Road (County Road 7)
  • Kimball Road (County Road 31) - Lambton/Chatham-Kent border (Kent Line) to 550 metres south of Plank Road (County Road 20)

Prohibited Highway 2 restrictions prohibits Heavy Trucks unless point of pick-up or delivery is within the specific municipality where part of the restriction is located.

Local pick-up or delivery areas included in Prohibited Highway 2 restrictions are:

  • Petrolia Line (County Road 4) - 100 metres east of Mandaumin Road (County Road 26) to Oil Heritage Road (County Road 21)
  • Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) - Mandaumin Road (County Road 26) to King's Highway 21
  • Aberarder Line (County Road 11) - Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) to Oil Heritage Road (County Road 30)
  • Townsend Line (County Road 12) - Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) to King Street (King's Highway 21)
  • Mandaumin Road (County Road 26) - Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) to King's Highway 402
  • Oil Heritage Road (County Road 30) - Lakeshore Road (County Road 7) to Aberarder Line (County Road 11)

County staff work with enforcement agencies, including Ontario Provincial Police, Sarnia Police Services, and the Ministry of Transportation, to help reduce the impacts of heavy trucks on County roads.
