Programs

The departments' Community Paramedic program was introduced in 2017 and works with a number of community stakeholders, including Bluewater Health, primary care, home and community care, to provide case management, coordinated care planning and other proactive measures in the community versus in the traditional 'bricks and mortar' health settings. We work with community partners to ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.

The paramedics assigned to this program have received additional training through a partnership with Fanshawe College and are supported by a number of local health providers.

The goal of the program is to reduce unnecessary 911 calls, emergency room visits and hospital admissions by helping at-risk residents stay healthy and happy in their home.

The PAD program provides training, preventative maintenance and quality assurance for all AED's we place in the community. To find out if your organization is eligible for placement, please contact us.

What is an AED?

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable lifesaving device that quickly and safely evaluates the electrical activity of a victim's heart and determines if the heart would benefit from applying a "shock" of energy. Together with CPR, early defibrillation can dramatically increase the survival rate for someone who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.

Participate in the Cool Aid program!

The Cool Aid form is a fold-up, magnetized form that contains medical information that you can place on the outside of a fridge. Inside the form is a space for you to record personal information, medical issues, prescribed medications, and allergies.

Lambton Paramedics are trained to look for this form when responding to calls for medical assistance.

Lambton EMS supports a team of volunteer paramedics whose role is to assist and provide support to their fellow paramedic colleagues.

Building on other occupational health strategies introduced to the department several years ago, these team members are peer nominated and training in a number of evidenced based best practices programs (eg. MANERS, ASSIST) and are available to support our staff 24/7 for any number of possible issues. The team also utilizes the services of a psychologist to ensure the well-being of the team members themselves.

Throughout the summer months, Lambton Paramedics take care of community gardens located at all of our stations. We collect the vegetables and donate them to the Inn of the Good Shepherd in Sarnia.

Lambton County Community Paramedics run wellness clinics throughout the County. Everyone is welcome to attend.

These clinics provide:

• A vital signs check (such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation, temperature, blood glucose levels and body weight); and
• Consultations to ask questions about your health and wellness.
