Official Plan Review

Background

The current Lambton County Official Plan (OP) was adopted by Lambton County Council in September 2017 and approved with modifications by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs in March 2018.

The County of Lambton is now conducting a review of the Official Plan pursuant to Section 26 of the Planning Act.

NPG Planning Solutions has been engaged to oversee the review process.

This Official Plan Review provides the opportunity for the County to:

  • align with updated legislation, including changes to the Planning Act
  • bring the OP into conformity with the 2024 Provincial Planning Statement, which came into effect on October 20, 2024
  • update population, housing needs, and employment projections
  • assess land supply
  • assess whether the OP reflects community goals, priorities, and needs

As a first step, draft population, housing and employment projections and a land needs assessment have been produced:

Future Steps

The Draft Projections and Land Needs Assessment will be finalized based on public, agency, and municipal input and brought to County Council for formal endorsement.

NPG Planning Solutions is reviewing the County OP and will produce a list of proposed updates to the County Official Plan.

Open Houses and formal Public Meetings will be held in the New Year to obtain input respecting community goals, priorities, and needs and proposed County OP updates. Dates are yet to be set.

Proposed updates will be finalized based on consultation and presented for adoption by County Council.
