Who we are

The County of Lambton is located in Southwestern Ontario, nestled along Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, next to the state of Michigan and is home to a diverse and welcoming population of approximately 128,000 residents.

The Corporation of the County of Lambton is one of the area’s largest employers with approximately 1,300 employees. The County’s seven divisions deliver hundreds of services and programs to our residents, such as emergency medical services, provincial offences court, three long-term care homes, 24 library branches, three museums, an art gallery, archives, public works, public health services, social services, planning and building services.

We are committed to sustainability, economic growth, environmental stewardship and an enhanced quality of life through the provision of responsive and efficient services and collaborative efforts with our municipal and community partners.

Services and Operations

The County’s diverse and talented workforce delivers hundreds of services and programs to our residents, allowing our community to flourish.

Our services and operations include:

  • Long-Term Care through three long-term care homes and related community services including Adult Day Programs and Lambton County Connects.
  • Public Health Services including program, service, and policy development, involving health promotion, health protection, and clinical & family services.
  • Emergency Medical Services through nine ambulance bases and a Community Paramedic program.
  • Social Services including employment and income support, community housing, homelessness prevention, and children's services.
  • One Art Gallery with Category 'A' designation from the Department of Canadian Heritage.
  • Three Museums including a National Historic Site (the Oil Museum of Canada).
  • Library Services through 24 library locations.
  • Public Works including maintaining 646 road kilometres, 190 bridges and culverts, and landfills.
  • Planning Services prepares and maintains the County's Official Plan and works closely with local municipalities to prepare Official Plans and Zoning By-laws, oversees community emergency planning, maintains the County's 9-1-1 addressing system and management plans for various County-owned natural areas.
  • Building Services oversees building, plumbing and sewage applications and inspections, and provides enforcement for the Ontario Weed Control Act, property standards, clean yards and Zoning By-Laws.
  • Provincial Offences Court and Court Services is responsible for processing fine payments, enforcement of unpaid fines, setting trials, recording court proceedings, generating transcripts and other administrative duties resulting from charges laid by the various enforcement agencies operating within Lambton County.

Our Strategic Plan confirms and builds on the County’s established mission, vision, values, sets current priorities, outlines the principles that guide our actions and decision-making, and guides the County in its continued evolution.
